Christ is the Sea of Sweetness

After a great Easter Day of worship and preaching spent the time on Monday and Tuesday this week doing a long list of chores that were neglected since, ahem, since Lent began. My wife lovingly called it “an Easter miracle”.

I did have a read of a bit more John Flavel. His complete works are available from Banner of Truth in a 6 volume set but for some reason volume 1 is not available in the USA. Just as well, it may be too much if it were.

I had to share this with you. It is a wonderful metaphor. You can read along in Google Books. The link is below.

John Flavel:

Christ [is] the very essence of all delights and pleasures, the very soul and substance of them. As all the rivers are gathered into the ocean, which is congregation or meeting-place of all  waters in the world: so Christ is that ocean in which all true delights and pleasures meet. . . .

His excellencies are pure and unmixed; he is a sea of sweetness without one drop of gall.

The Method of Grace, sermon XII.

He is Risen.
